What is so great about these anthologies is that editors spend all year reading the best short fiction from magazines and other anthologies to bring you just the best. The Year's Best Dark Fantasy and Horror edited Paula Guran, The Year's Best Weird Fiction (different editor every year), Year's Best Hardcore Horror, and the before mentioned Year's Best Body Horror are all good as well but focus on their particular sub-genres. The two big ones out there are The Best Horror of the Year edited by Ellen Datlow and The Best New Horror edited by Stephen Jones.

Year's Best Anthologies are an awesome place to start, particularly for the horror genre.

Short story anthologies fall into three broad categories: Edited Anthologies, Single Author Anthologies, and Year's Best Anthologies.
